DC Office of Tax and Revenue Extends Tax Filing Deadline for Victims of Hurricane Ike or Gustav

(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue today announced that it will extend the tax filing and payment deadline to January 5, 2009 for individuals and businesses affected by Hurricane Ike or Gustav.

This postponement covers individual estimated tax, corporate and unincorporated tax returns, and corporate and unincorporated estimated tax payments that were due on September 15, and extended individual returns due October 15.

The extension applies to affected taxpayers who reside in the following presidential disaster areas:

  • In Texas, the counties affected include Angelina, Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Cherokee, Fort Bend, Galveston, Gregg, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller, and Washington.
  • The Louisiana parishes affected include Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Catahoula, Concordia, East Baton Rouge, East Carroll, East Feliciana, Franklin, Evangeline, Grant, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, LaSalle, Livingston, Madison, Morehouse, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Quachita, Rapides, Richland, Sabine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Tensas, Terrebonne, Union, Vermilion, Vernon, Washington, West Baton Rouge, West Carroll, West Feliciana, and Winn.
    District taxpayers who are claiming the relief should boldly write at the top of the first page of the return “HURRICANE IKE OR GUSTAV RELIEF.”
