(Washington, DC) - The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) today announced that its Deputy Chief Financial Officer Stephen M. Cordi has been appointed chairman of the Multistate Tax Commission (MTC). Cordi, who was elected vice chairman of MTC in May 2008, has been appointed chairman upon the resignation of Chairman Omar Davis, director for the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The Multistate Tax Commission (MTC) is an intergovernmental, state tax agency, which works on behalf of states and taxpayers to equitably and efficiently administer tax laws that apply to multistate and multinational enterprises. The commission, which was created by the Multistate Tax Compact, handles a multitude of tax initiatives:
- Facilitates the proper determination of state and local tax liability of multistate taxpayers, including the equitable apportionment of tax bases and settlement of apportionment disputes;
- Promotes uniformity or compatibility in significant components of tax systems;
- Facilitates taxpayer convenience and compliance in the filing of tax returns and other phases of tax administration; and
- Avoids duplicative taxation.
Established in 1967, 46 states and the District of Columbia participate in the work of the MTC. The District of Columbia is a full member of the MTC and an active participant in its uniformity and audit programs.
