OTR Offers Assistance to Help Taxpayers Meet Obligation as Filing Deadline Nears

(Washington, DC) – The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) announced today that specialists from its Customer Service and Compliance Administrations will hold a series of “taxpayer information days” at various District government buildings to answer tax questions and collect District tax returns as the tax filing deadline nears. In addition, OTR will post daily tax tips on its Web site (taxpayerservicecenter.com).

"It is important for taxpayers to know that we are here to help them with their tax returns and with any tax-related questions they may have," says Stephen M. Cordi, deputy chief financial officer for tax and revenue. “Our staff is dedicated to making the 2009 tax-filing season less taxing on our residents.”

Taxpayer Information Days
: Taxpayers may receive assistance with all tax-related questions and can drop off their District tax returns.

  • Thursday, April 2 -- 10 am to Noon
    Reeves Center, 2000 14th Street, NW, 1st Floor
  • Wednesday, April 8 -- 10 am to Noon
    Municipal Center, 300 C Street, NW, 1st Floor
  • Wednesday, April 15 -- 2 pm to 4 pm
    One Judiciary Square, 441 4th Street, NW, 1st Floor

Free DC Individual Income Tax Return Preparation Services
Free tax assistance is available 8:15 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday at the walk-in Customer Service Center on the first floor at 941 North Capitol Street, NE, to anyone who needs help preparing their District individual income tax returns. To receive this service, individuals must bring the following information: federal tax return, supporting W-2 forms, and any other required information.

Taxpayers may also visit the Penn Branch customer service center located in the Penn Branch shopping center at the corner of Pennsylvania and Branch Avenues, SE, from 8:15 am to 4:30 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, through April 15.

Taxpayers can also download District tax forms, find helpful information and check the status of their refund by visiting the taxpayerservicecenter.com or by calling (202) 727-4TAX (4829) 8:15 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
