(Washington, DC) The Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) today has begun mailing the 2009 second-half real property tax bills to District property owners. These tax bills reflect current and any past due real property tax liabilities. The due date for payment is Thursday, September 15.

If property owners do not receive a bill in the mail by August 29, they should call OTR’s Customer Service Center at (202) 727-4TAX (4829). Failure to receive a tax bill does not excuse individuals from paying taxes owed.

If a tax payment is late, the property owner will be charged a 10 percent penalty and a 1.5 percent interest fee for each full or partial month the payment is late.

Property owners can pay their real property taxes online by using OTR’s free eCheck payment system. This convenient and easy to use system is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
