OTR and IRS Launch New Resource for Small Businesses

(Washington, DC) In partnership with the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the DC Office of Tax and Revenue has introduced a new resource facility for small businesses and self-employed individuals. The new IRS Tax Center on DC.Gov makes it easier for small businesses and the self-employed to locate information relating to federal taxes. Topics of interest include: business structure, electronic filing, retirement plans, online tax courses, and the location of IRS offices. The site is located at http://brc.dc.gov/tax/irssummary.asp.

The IRS introduced the IRS Tax Center program to broaden the reach and usefulness of its existing website, IRS.Gov. More than 20 entities nationally have established partnerships with the IRS through this program. The District of Columbia is the first city or state government to establish an IRS Tax Center.

“This partnership with the IRS enables the District of Columbia to provide additional online information for small businesses seeking federal tax forms, articles, and training,” said Dan Black, Deputy Chief Financial Officer for OTR.

The IRS Tax Center will supplement the small business checklists and guides already available on the District Government website’s Business Resource Center (BRC). Over 18,000 businesses and individuals visit the BRC every month for information about starting a business, taxes, licensing, and local business events. OTR provides online tax filing, payment and administration services for business taxes.
