(Washington, DC) The deadline for District of Columbia taxpayers to file their 2005 income tax return has been extended to Tuesday, April 18.
District taxpayers will get the extra time to file their return because April 15 falls on a Saturday this year. This would ordinarily mean the filing deadline moves to the following Monday, but Monday, April 17 is a legal holiday in the District of Columbia—Emancipation Day.
For federal income tax filing purposes, taxpayers living in the Northeast—including the District of Columbia—also have a filing deadline of April 18 because of a state holiday in Massachusetts where the IRS has a processing facility.
