OUC Job Fair Draws Over 800 Applicants

Over 840 area residents turned out to participate in the largest job fair ever hosted by the Office of Unified Communications (OUC). The onsite event held March 17, 2007 drew qualified applicants from across the Metropolitan area. The job fair provided various employment and networking opportunities. Career prospects included emergency call taker, customer service representative, and police report writer positions.

OUC Director Janice Quintana commented, "Our objective was to tap into the talented and enthusiastic pool of candidates, right here in our Ward 8 home, to fill critical positions in our agency. Fortunately, the fair was well received and supported by our community and provided job seekers with an opportunity to find out about the many services that our agency provides.

"Based on feedback from participants, community leaders and OUC employees who worked the event, we believe that the fair was a huge success. It was as beneficial to the community as it was to the OUC. In fact, following the overwhelming response, we are privileged to have an enormous pool of extremely qualified individuals to fill current vacancies and to hire from as any future personnel actions are taken," Quintana said.

The OUC operates as a professional public safety communication nerve center that provides high-level customer service and world-class public safety services for residents and visitors of the District of Columbia. The OUC was created in October 2004 to consolidate key public safety communication functions of multiple District of Columbia agencies, including the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Fire and Emergency Medical Services (FEMS) and the Mayor's Citywide Call Center (CWCC).
