Director, DC Office of Veteran Affairs
Chow leaves DC Advisory Board on Veterans Affairs due to accepting new position as Secretary of Veterans Affairs for State of Maryland.
Mr. Edward Chow, Jr., a District of Columbia resident, served proudly as a member of the DC Advisory Board on Veterans Affairs, until Tuesday morning at about 10am. Chow left his seat on the board because at 10 am he was sworn in as the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the State of Maryland.
Chow served on the advisory board for seven years. And he is no stranger to the inner workings of government. He has been involved with government on the local, state and federal levels for many years.
Just to name a few of his positions in government, on the local level, Mr. Chow was the City Administrator for Kent, Washington. On the state level, he served as the Director of Emergency Services for the State of Washington. And on the federal level, he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary/Senior Advisor for the Office of Policy and Planning for the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
Chow left the Army as at the rank of Captain in 1967, after serving 11 years. And in 1967, he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic or meritorious achievement or service during the Vietnam War.
Although he was sworn in Sept 1, by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley to a standing room only crowd at the state capitol, he still has to be confirmed by the Maryland State Senate.
