In 1989 Sharon relocated to Washington DC seeking a brighter future for herself and her son Mercedez. In 1993 she was referred to the DC Commission for Women to enroll in their Self-Sufficiency Program. It was there she received the necessary information that led to her obtaining her GED and computer skills. In 2001 Sharon received her Masters Degree, and is currently a PhD candidate.
Sharon has over 30 theater performances on her resume and has co-produced and directed two documentaries. She has taught art through healing for over fifteen years and is the artist-in-residence at the DC Department of Mental Health, Saint Elizabeths Hospital.
It is not uncommon to open a newspaper or turn on the television and see Sharon being honored for her humanitarian and volunteer services. Sharon has worked in human services for over 17 years and taught 11th grade Career Orientation for Training Grounds at Young America Works Public Charter School.
Sharon recently achieved one of her goals of becoming a Certified Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Facilitator and recently completed the Pre-Apprenticeship in the Construction Trade for Women operated by Goodwill Industry.
Sharon’s mottos are, “Don’t make anyone a priority that makes you an option” and “To fail is not an option.” Sharon presently lives alone in Southeast DC and has one grandson, who she calls “her prize in the cracker jack box,” 17-month old Desmond Jules.
