(Washington, DC) March 10 of each year has been designated by the US Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health as Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The DC Department of Health reported that women make up one-third of all newly reported HIV cases from 2001-2006. Mayor Fenty proclaims this day to be Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in the District of Columbia*, and calls upon all the residents of this great city to take part in activities and observances designed to increase awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS in observance of "Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day".
