View Facts About Foreign-Born Population in the District

In 2006, the District of Columbia had a foreign-born household population of 73,820 (13 percent) which was almost equally divided between males (50.2 percent) and females (49.8 percent). The median age was 37.9 years. Seven percent of the population was under 18 years and 10 percent was 65 years and older. The median income of foreign-born households in District of Columbia was $51,497. Among the foreign-born population at least five years old living in the District of Columbia in 2006, 28 percent speak English alone; 72 percent spoke a language other than English at home; and 35 percent reported that they did not speak English "very well."
