The District of Columbia's population estimates by race, age, gender and Hispanic Origin recently released by the US Census Bureau continues to show significant changes in the composition of the population since census 2000. While the total population continues to grow, the Black Non-Hispanic population shows a decline in number and percent of total District population each year from 342,464 (60%) in 2000 to 318,468 (54%) in 2007.
On the other hand, the White Non-Hispanic population has increased in number and percent of the total District population from 161,260 (28.2%) in 2000 to 191,463 (32.5%) in 2007. The Hispanic population increased from 44,953 (7.9%) in 2000 to 49,016 (8.3%) in 2007.
