(Washington, DC)The second public meeting in the NoMA (North of Massachusetts Avenue) Vision Plan & Development Strategy planning process was held on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 in Harding Hall in the U.S. Government Printing Office Building. Approximately 100 citizens attended the forum which included a presentation titled Community Assets and Emerging Vision that brought everyone up to date on the progress of the initiative, followed by an hour long group discussion/question and answer session. The discussion centered on four main areas of concern: 1) land use; 2) transportation and infrastructure; 3) public realm and open space, and; 4) neighborhood preservation. Finally, the attendees had a chance to view graphic displays covering each one of the above topics and have their questions answered one-on-one with OP staff and members of the consultant team. The third and final public meeting of the NoMA Vision Plan & Development Strategy is scheduled for March 16, 2006 from 6-8 pm. The meeting will take place once again in Harding Hall in the U.S. GPO Building, 710 North Capitol Street, NW. The plan is scheduled to be completed in April 2006.
The emerging NoMA vision proposes to conserve the existing neighborhoods and create a walkable, transit-accessible, dynamic, and diverse mixed-use area. Objectives include coordinated public and private investment and strengthened connections between new development, the new Metro station, and nearby existing residential neighborhoods.
