Elected Members of the DC State Board of Education Sworn In

The elected members of the DC State Board of Education were sworn in today at a ceremony held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The all-elected State Board will represent the District’s eight wards and include one elected at-large member. Three student representatives from District schools were also recognized at the swearing-in ceremony.

The State Board members include:  Dotti Love-Wade (Ward 1), Mary Lord (Ward 2), Laura McGiffert Slover (Ward 3), Sekou Biddle (Ward 4), Mark Jones (Ward 5), Lisa Raymond (Ward 6), Dorothy Douglas (Ward 7), William Lockridge (Ward 8), and Ted Trabue (At-Large).

The student representatives include Janelle Holloway from Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, Andre Nichols from Spingarn Senior High School, and Marissa Simms from Friendship Public Charter School.

The State Board has broad policy authority and responsibilities similar to those of boards in other states. The new State Board will select a president and vice president at its first meeting on January 28, 2009.
