The DC State Board of Education (DCSBOE) announced Friday, May 1, that the application period for the Benneta Bullock Washington Scholarship has closed. To date the office has received 27 applications. The DCSBOE members are elated with the number of respondents this year. Applications that are postmarked by May 1, 2009 will still be accepted for consideration.  

The State Board will begin the selection process immediately and has noted that this year the applicants include a diverse group of talented youth from across the District. Their academic achievements are truly inspiring. Beyond the academic accomplishments applicants have been involved in a breadth of extracurricular activities ranging from peer support groups to working with homeless to athletics and drug prevention. Those who participate in this scholarship competition represent some of the best and the brightest students in the District. 

Last year’s winner is completing his first full year of college. The State Board members are proud to play a part in helping students continue their post-secondary education.
