DC State Board of Education Selects Student Representatives for the 2009-2010 School Year

Contact:  Beverley Wheeler,  (202) 741-0884

Washington, DC – The DC State Board of Education (DCSBOE) is proud to announce the selection of Kirstin Jones from Benjamin Banneker Academic High School and Kevin Jackson, Jr. from McKinley Technology High School. The DCSBOE received three times as many applications as they did last year. The State Board is excited to see so many students interested in policy level learning activities.

The State Board selection committee concluded its difficult decision-making process yesterday.  The DCSBOE extended its application time period this year to encompass a broader group of extremely qualified youth. This year, student applications came from DC Public Schools, DC Public Charter Schools, private educational institutions, and college aged students. The applicants represented a truly diverse group including both genders and students representing three international languages. The personal and educational stories and accomplishments illustrate a drive for learning and civic engagement which is too often overlooked by students in the District. Congratulations to all of the students who took the time to apply.

Congratulations to Ms. Kirstin Jones and Mr. Kevin Jackson, Jr.!
