(Washington, DC) The Office of the State Superintendent of Education announces the availability of the Early College Program Grant funds for three grants awards of up to $200,000 each. Early College Programs should be designed to help high school students attain college credits and gain confidence to complete their college degree. The Early College Program is intended to develop bridge-building between institutions of higher education and secondary schools in an effort to better prepare underrepresented students for high academic achievement. Deadline to submit Request for Applications is 5:00pm, January 18, 2008.
Awards will be made to public schools and public charter schools in the District of Columbia with existing early college programs in an attempt to help sustain the programs. This grant will support engaging secondary schools and institutions of higher education in satisfying their missions; networking university faculty and high school teachers; developing systems to sustain early college programs; and identifying policies that support early college high schools.
