The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) distributed books and approximately 1,000 bags of food to attendees of the 9th Annual Safeway Feast of Sharing on November 26.

OSSE disseminated books for various reading levels in an effort to encourage literacy and increase awareness of homelessness within the DC community. OSSE also distributed prepackaged bags of food, which were donated to the District of Columbia by Feed the Children.

The event featured a free Thanksgiving meal, health screenings, information about maintaining good health, and information about employment opportunities. More than 5,000 people were served throughout the day, an increase of approximately 1,000 over the previous year. People of all ages received a well-balanced Thanksgiving meal provided by Safeway, Inc., and other goods and services from participants like the OSSE.
