(Washington, DC) The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has released the 2008-2009 student enrollment count for the District of Columbia’s public schools. This is the eighth year that the OSSE has conducted a census-type audit of student enrollment. The audit, which is required under DC Code, serves as the official enrollment count for all public schools in the District of Columbia.
The final audited student enrollment count for DCPS and public charter schools as of October 6, 2008, was 70,919 students. The enrollment audit also verified that:
- For DCPS, 45,190 students were enrolled in pre-school through grade 12 and non-grade-level programs;
- For the District’s public charter schools, 25,729 students were enrolled in pre-school through grade 12 and adult education programs.
