The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is pleased to announce that The Center for Inspired Teaching, New Leaders for New Schools, The New Teacher Project, and Teach for America have all been granted accreditation by the District of Columbia to prepare educators for State licensure.

These organizations have been granted approval to prepare educators in the following disciplines:

The Center for Inspired Teaching:
Elementary Education
Early Childhood Education
Secondary English Language Arts

New Leaders for New Schools:
Educational Administration and Leadership

The New Teacher Project:

Teach for America:

The decision to grant accreditation and program approval to the aforementioned organizations is the result of a review of each organization’s proposed curricular offerings against a rigorous set of standards for educator preparation, which was approved by the DC State Board of Education in December of 2008.   These organizations join seven institutions of higher education - American University, Catholic University of America, Gallaudet University, The George Washington University, Howard University, Trinity University, and the University of the District of Columbia, already accredited by the State to prepare educators for DC licensure.

For more information–including information about the educator preparation program standards and application review process please contact Orman Feres, Accreditation and Program Approval Coordinator, at (202) 741-5218 or by email at orman.feres@dc.gov.
