Please join us for a community forum DC's Phase II Application for the Race to the Top!
The community forum, which is being held jointly by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education and the State Board of Education, will be on Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the Charles Sumner School. The historic Sumner school is located downtown at the Northeast corner of 17th and M Streets, NW, conveniently located near the Farragut North Metro station on the Red Line.
Please come learn about the new proposal DC will send to the US Department of Education. At the presentation you will hear what this means for your school, which schools plan to participate, and what they plan to do. Again, this invitation is intended for all stakeholders -- parents, students, school leaders, community members.
The Race to the Top Fund was announced by President Barack Obama and US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in January. More information is available here: http://www.ed.gov/programs/racetothetop. At this meeting you will learn about DC's strategy for Phase II from:
- Dr. Kerri Briggs, State Superintendent of Education
- Ted Trabue, State Board of Education Chairman
At this meeting, we’ll discuss the process and timeline for DC’s Race to the Top Phase II application. Other topics include:
- About Race to the Top and how it will benefit DC schools
- Scoring for Phase I application
- How we’re improving our application for Phase II
- Solicit community input and feedback on strengthening the application
