OSSE to Hold Two Public Hearings on the Proposed National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standard (NIMAS) Proposed Policy

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires states to adopt NIMAS for the purpose of providing instructional materials to blind persons or other persons with print disabilities.

The adoption of the NIMAS standard will support local education agencies (LEAs) in their work to ensure that eligible students have the widest range of supports and services available under the law to ensure access to the general curriculum.

A summary of the proposed policy is included in the public hearing notice.  Persons are encouraged to read the proposed policy for full detail.

The comment period begins Thursday, May 12, 2011 and concludes at 5 pm on Monday, June 13, 2011.
