The OSSE Division of Early Childhood Education announces the Request for Applications (RFA) for the Fiscal Year 2012 Licensing Technical Assistance and Professional Development for Persons with Limited English Proficiency or Non-English Proficiency. Pre-Application Conference August 25, 2011.
The Division of Early Childhood Education (ECE) is committed to improving the quality and expanding the supply of early education providers in the District of Columbia. A key component of its mission to support families is to increase the number of qualified child care providers and the quality of child care in the District of Columbia. There is a critical need for licensed child care providers to serve communities in which English is not the primary language. ECE is issuing this Request for Application (RFA) to obtain assistance in fulfilling its mission of meeting the child development needs of culturally-diverse District of Columbia communities.
ECE intends to fund one (1) or more Grantee(s) to provide technical assistance in becoming a licensed child development facility provider, professional development, and preparation in the core Child Development Associate (CDA) competencies to work in the field of early care and education. The target population to be served by this grant is District of Columbia residents with Limited Proficiency in English or non-English Proficiency. Primary candidates are residents whose primary language is Amharic, Chinese, French, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese.
Eligibility: Applicants must be: (1) a non-profit organization in the District of Columbia; (2) licensed to do business in the District of Columbia; and (3) approved by the OSSE/ECE Trainer Approval Program or agree to become approved within six (6) months of the award. Organizations serving the targeted populations in Wards 1, 5, and 7 are strongly encouraged to apply for this RFA.
Funds in the amount of two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) are available to support grants awarded under this RFA. The application due date is September 15, 2011.
