DC TAG Reaches $17M Grant Disbursement

In its third year, the District’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAG) exceeds its yearly goal to award $17 million for the first time. TAG Director Leonard Proctor attributes the grant’s success to an aggressive community outreach effort. “We’ve participated in 103 community events this year and welcome additional opportunities to talk directly to District residents.”

DC TAG provides grants for undergraduate District students to attend eligible public universities and colleges nationwide at in-state tuition rates and provides smaller grants for students to attend private institutions in the D.C. metropolitan area and private historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU’s) nationwide.

Grants are awarded to undergraduates based on the following criteria:

  • District Domicile Status
  • Academic Standing
  • Selective Service Status
  • Citizenship Status
  • Incarceration Status
  • Loan Status

Organizations interested in hosting a DC TAG workshop are encouraged to call Community Outreach Coordinator Ken Howard at (202) 727-2824.

The State Education Office, under the Executive Office of the Mayor, administers the program in consultation with the U.S. Dept. of Education.
