The District of Columbia State Education Office today announced its policy for free and reduced price meals for the schools listed below for needy children under the National School Lunch/Breakfast/and Special Milk Programs. A copy of this policy is on file at the State Education Office and may be reviewed by any interested party.
The following household size and income criteria will be used to determine eligibility: Children from families whose gross income is at or below the levels shown for their household size are eligible for free or reduced price meals.
Application forms are being sent to the homes of enrolled children with a letter to parents or guardians. To apply for free or reduced price meals, households should fill out the application and return it to the school. Additional copies are available at the principal's office in each school; applications may also be retrieved online.
The information provided on the application will be used for the purpose of determining eligibility and may be verified at any time during the school year by school or other program officials.
For the school officials to determine eligibility, households receiving food stamps or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) must list the child’s name, their food stamp or TANF case number and the signature of an adult household member. Households not receiving food stamps of TANF must provide the following names of all household members; social security number of the adult household member who signs the application or a statement that the household member does not possess one; the amount and type of income received by each household member (such as wages, child support, etc.); and the signature of an adult household member certifying that the information provided is correct.
Application may be submitted at any time during the year as circumstances change.
